Red Hot Chili Peppers – ‘Desecration Smile’
Desecration Smile is a far cry from Red Hot Chili Peppers usual videos; it’s extremely quiet visually when compared to previous offerings such as ‘Can’t Stop’. Reminiscent of the studio video for ‘My Friends’, they both share a consistent use of shallow depth of field and manual focusing throughout, resulting in softness of both light and image that is usually unachievable in their videos.
The video coincides perfectly with the sun setting on the coast in the background, providing a stunning backdrop. Gus Van Sant shot the video in one 4:16 take on a hand-held camera to emphasise the realism that is usually lost in music videos. It’s this realism that makes Desecration Smile so special; the energy within the video and between the four band members is extremely genuine and respectful. It is quite simply a beautifully shot documentation of the chemistry between the four musicians and their music.
Absolutely love this video, it’s stunning.
Peace out.
OH THE UNWAVERING BROMANCE! You just have to love these guys! The sincerety and the bond they’ve developed! They’re in the band not to sell albums and tickets, but because they simply like music. <3
